What kind of help do you require?

We offer different types of assistance to help you improve your writing:

Editing – we proofread your text, check your formatting, and we indicate ways to improve your syntax and the structure of your text to emphasise the primary content and important conclusions. If your vocabulary is repetitive we suggest alternative phrases. We standardise your text to your preferred language (US/UK/SA English). We check every word of your text, from your lists of contents and figures, to your tables, captions and diagrams.

This includes:

  • Content – we may indicate areas of your text where your research or argument may be unconvincing or lacking structure, rigour and clarity.
  • Formatting – we check that your Table of Contents matches your chapter headings and page numbers and we ensure that your List of Figures is sequential and matches your image captions.
  • Referencing – we address typos and tidy your in-text referencing and bibliography according to your university/technikon referencing guide. We check your text to ensure that you have correctly acknowledged your sources.

Critical reading – this is offered to those who may not be ready to submit a text for publication but are struggling to formulate an argument. We offer our services as ‘critical readers’ of your text to point out the strengths and flaws in your argumentation and reasoning. This is ideal for authors and researchers who are currently not working with academic supervisors or those who have no access to constructive critical feedback.

Things we don’t do:

  • impose our authorial or editorial voices on your text.

  • graphic design services, such as layout and design or typesetting.

  • writing academic theses, dissertations, articles, and essays for others.

  • plagiarism.

  • all-nighters.
